When we make a decision no later than one feels like there is the inner uncertainty that quietly overwhelms us, we are conscious of it so we do nothing to combat or tackle it, we don’t take the chance of clarifying that condition, we don’t know what it is, why it is, what it does or what it needs.
That’s what we miss, protection and decision; these two principles are those that are applied to the reader by incorporating the words of reverence for the architecture that Baeza writes to us into the depth of the words, the unfolding that contributes to his thought extends to every circumstance.
His emphasis on architecture has a breadth and a secret between lines, one that deepens in the creation of oneself, his belief that «EVERYTHING is possible».
One that is peculiar that you notice in Baeza’s reading is that it takes into account the theme of «materials» the way in which it emphasizes in any paragraph that is necessary the importance of these, that the chosen correct and proper to the desired will form wonders, that its validity in what gives value to oneself, just as it is embodied in Chapter XVIII «Materials and its role in the architectural conception» of Vladimir Kaspé’s book Architecture as a whole, Baeza is aware of the main role of materials in building formation, knows that depth is paramount, essence and its necessary use.
«I want to be an architect,» it takes an entourage to begin to become aware of an architect’s responsibility, that architecture is not only to draw and build buildings but in a wide range of knowledge, an architect must know history, he must know where those wonders that guide you and serve as the basis for creating today, you should start looking for the idea that drives you to take advantage of what you want to capture, it is essential to know your working environment and what materials coincide with the desired ideal, that fulfills the functions of the character of the building.
This book is a straightforward and detailed description of what an architect does or should do, driving you to consider architecture in such a way that it gives you what an architect wants to have and what helps to be better, letting you realize that curiosity is a source of inspiration.
I am in my first semester of architecture, there is still a long way to go, but with the short time, I have been there having emerged qualities that Baeza happens to mention. The tight one is one of that, I remember someone told me that appreciating what surrounds us, appreciating every tiny detail will lead us to know great qualities, that the more discoveries come the more curious we will have in knowing why it is done like this, why it was done, why not otherwise; I completely agree park now every situation catches my attention and I am born that need to know more, to freeze the moment with a spectacular photo, to describe it with words that can not even describe the depth of the situation.
Baeza knows that feeling and perhaps, in my opinion, is why to write this book, to calm insecurities, to motivate dreamers, to show that architecture is a source of infinite knowledge, that each project will leave a good experience, a bitter one, but it will also leave a mark, one that can last for years, because doing it correctly following the necessary parameters that one absorbs out of interest, curiosity or chance, will give character to a better future.
Absorbing Baeza’s words gives you that security and respectability that an architect must have gives you the answer that insecurity will not put you in what you want but to keep you away, that commitment and desires are born of the determination we possess, that we can fulfill the desire of others if we fulfill our first because the primordial knowledge is that of oneself because we accept reality and open a door to curiosity to see the world in more detail so that we take sides and can create with the materials, character, responsibility, and knowledge necessary.
